Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and restful holiday season.
The first part of the school year has quickly come and gone. It was a successful time, with our students and campuses accomplishing much. I am sure that the remainder of the 2011-12 school year is sure to be filled with even more success. Along with that success will be challenges as well. The changes in state testing and accountability will be particularly demanding. STAAR, the new state assessment which begins this semester, is much more rigorous than it has been in the past. But, we have been preparing and I am confident that our students will meet the challenge of this new test as they have in the past. Our testing schedule has also been modified from what we formerly had. If you have not already done so, please check our District Calendar online for the test dates. The first STAAR testing dates are scheduled for the week of March 26th-29th in reading, writing and math.
I would like to commend our students for the outstanding District attendance rate achieved during the fall semester. Our attendance rate during the first part of the year was 96.7%. This is an outstanding feat! As you are aware, strong attendance not only ensures maximum instructional time for our students but also leads to increased funding. With your help we hope to duplicate those efforts this semester. Please make every effort to ensure that your students are in school every day.
Thanks for your continued support. Have a prosperous and healthy 2012.
