Mountain View High School
Principal’s Attendance Plan
(Loss of Credit)Students with attendance between 90% to 75%, have not met the minimum attendance set forth by the State of Texas under Compulsory Attendance and the 90% rule.
Section 25.092 conditions credit for a class on a Student’s attendance for at least 90 percent of the days a class is offered. A student who is in attendance for at least 75 percent, but less than 90 percent, of the days a class is offered may be given credit if the student completes a plan approved by the principal that provides for the student to meet the instructional requirement of the class.
Students must comply with the following:
- Student must be in Attendance 75% to 90% of the time to be eligible to participate.
- Students must have a final semester grade between 60 and 100 to be eligible to participate.
- Student must retake the course if the final semester grade is between a 0 and a 60.
- Students must complete the hours of instructional time assigned to them.
Instructional hours are determined by using the following formula:
Days exceeding 90% per class * 0.75 (0.75 represents 45 minutes per class)
Example: A student misses 16 days of class. The 90% rule states that they must not have more than 9 absences this semester. Therefore the student has 7 absences in excess. 7 * 0.75 = 5.25; the student must make up 5 hours and 15 minutes of instructional time to recover credit.
Instructional hours are anything instructional that is accomplished outside the normal school hours. The following items are some examples, but this list is not limited to these items: Tutoring, Saturday instructional sessions, Credit Recovery
Students must log instructional hours on an hour log, and the times must be signed by the assigned teacher.
Extenuating circumstances, such as medical reasons and military related absences may be granted immediate credit upon principal approval. Any attendance rates below 75 percent must go through the attendance committee process.______________________________
