SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Dr. Juan I. Martinez

Clint ISD Superintendent, Dr. Juan I. Martinez
  • Dr. Juan I. Martinez has been a Texas educator for 29 years, serving as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Human Resources, Chief Human Resource Officer and Clint ISD Superintendent of Schools. He is in his eleventh year as the Superintendent of the Clint Independent School District.

Dr. Martinez received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information System and Master of Education degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1993 and 1996 respectively. Dr. Martinez obtained his superintendent certificate from Angelo State University in 2006. He received his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2017.

Clint ISD encompasses three major, separate and distinct communities in west Texas – the Town of Clint, a stable farming and ranching area; the Town of Horizon City, a growing suburban area; and the community of Montana Vista, an unincorporated area, with over 10,000 students district-wide.

Dr. Martinez was named the Superintendent of the Year for Region 19 in 2018 and was one of four finalists for the State Superintendent of the Year.

Dr. Martinez, believes that all students deserve a school district in which all who work in it are committed and willing to act to ensure that all students and their needs are the focal point of the district’s daily activity. He sees himself as an “Agent of Social Capital” for students and by derivation, their parents. For this reason, Dr. Martinez spends a significant amount of time devoted to interacting with students, including eating with them in school cafeterias almost daily, to offer his support and guidance and to position himself in the network of students. It is a common understanding in Clint ISD that students have direct access to the superintendent through email, text, a direct call to his cell phone or a personal visit. Dr. Martinez also believes that his mission is not completed upon the students graduating from his four high schools. Thus, he continues to communicate with former students to find ways to assist them. Through his interactions with former students, many are now employees of the school district as teachers, technology professionals, nurses, public relations specialists, and administrators.

Dr. Martinez is proud of the many accomplishments of his school district. In particular, the innovative technology that has been implemented throughout the school district. This includes, smart panels and surround sound in every classroom, teacher and student microphones, emergency notifications from every classroom, drone and robotic competitions, eSports in all schools, Chromebooks for all students, interactive cameras and security cameras in all classrooms, interactive walls in all gymnasiums, air purifications systems in all schools and facilities and other initiatives.

Dr. Martinez and his wife, Brenda, are proud parents of two children.
