PROCEDURES FOR REPORTING AN INJURY

An employee who is injured in the course and scope of employment must report the injury to his or her immediate supervisor immediately or no later than 24 hours after the occurrence.

Employees should seek first aid treatment from the closest campus nurse when necessary.

If the employee requires additional medical attention, the Benefits and Risk Management Coordinator may refer the employee to a physician.

The employee must complete and sign the injury report, and the original must be forwarded to the Benefits and Risk Management Coordinator within two (2) business days.

All work status reports received from a medical provider need to be forwarded to the immediate supervisor as well as the Benefits and Risk Management Coordinator.

An employee with a work-related injury will be notified of their rights and responsibilities under the Texas Labor Code.
Employee returning to work after an injury:

Medical confirmation of the physical fitness to return to work will be required for an employee seeking to return to work following an absence caused by a work-related injury or illness.

Before the employee may return to work, he or she must report to the Benefits and Risk Management Coordinator to receive approval to return to work and then report for work on the date specified and authorized by the employee’s physician.

If the employee fails to report for duty on that date he or she may be subject to disciplinary action for failure to report to work timely.
- If the employee was out of work for more than one week due to a work-related injury, he or she must complete a training session with the Safety Specialist within 30 days of there return.
