Heart Safe Schools
Clint ISD is proud to announce that Ricardo Estrada Middle School (REMS) has officially become the first designated Heart Safe School in El Paso County. This achievement is the result of a pioneering partnership with El Paso Children's Hospital and Project ADAM, a national initiative dedicated to responding to sudden cardiac arrest in schools and saving lives.
About the initiative: As the first pilot site in the county, REMS underwent a rigorous evaluation of its cardiac emergency preparedness. Key components of the initiative included:
-
Three-Minute AED Access: A comprehensive audit ensured that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are strategically placed so they can be reached from any point on campus within three minutes.
-
Specialized Response Team: A dedicated Cardiac Emergency Response Team (CERT) of 11 staff completed intensive CPR and AED training.
-
Voluntary Excellence: In a display of community commitment, the entire REMS custodial staff voluntarily completed CPR certification to support the campus-wide safety net.
-
Real-World Drills: On November 10, 2025 the school conducted a timed, high-stakes drill in collaboration with the Horizon Fire Deparment to test response times and coordination.
